Winter in Vienna | Winter in Vienna
Walk through the city in winter
In Vienna, no snow had been left for many years in December before Christmas.
The snow surprised us. We could still remember Christmas a year ago in the mountains: the White artificial snow bands, which ran from the mountain peaks between the lush green of the forests down into the valley to enable us to ski absurdly.
It was now necessary to capture this rare moment in Vienna – Vienna in snow.
Like many other people, I took some photos.
Since it was very cold, I could hold my small compact camera only briefly in my hands. My fingers were almost immobile. Frozen. My fingers hurt. They could see that their blood flow was reduced to a minimum to keep my body stem warm. In addition, I had to take off my thick gloves, as I would otherwise not have been able to operate the buttons and setting wheels on my very small compact camera. To be precise, I could hardly hold my camera with my gloves.

My walks through the city were short.
On the one hand I was on my way to work, on the other hand it was already bitter cold.
An icy wind blew through the city and it became bright, if at all late, and dark again very early. A day of high and bright blue skies was followed by a typical day in Vienna at that time of year: with diffuse light without ever seeing the sun. Light yet dark at the same time. A day when the sounds of Mozart Requiems in the marrow and leg. And always snowfall.
A few impressions:
- from the Votivkirche, which now since 2001, that is to say after more than Two decades without scaffolding and shining in their splendor,
- from the University of Vienna,
- from the Universitätsring,
- from the Town Hall with the Bussiplatz,
- from Stephansplatz and
- from Taborstraße in the second district:

I have deliberately omitted photo descriptions. The impression counts.
A few days later it thawed and the snow had disappeared as quickly as it came.
There are a few memories and a few pictures.
